आज दि. १२ एप्रिल.
१२ एप्रिल १९९० रोजी डॉ. बाबासाहेब आंबेडकरांच्या तैलचित्राचे संसदेमध्ये अनावरण झाले होते.
संसदेत डॉ. बाबासाहेब आंबेडकरांचे तैलचित्र लावण्यास काँग्रेसचा विरोध होता. ज्यांनी लिहिलेल्या राज्यघटनेनुसार देशाचा कारभार चालतो त्यांचे तैलचित्र त्या कारभाराला दिशा देणार्या संसदेत लावण्यात काँग्रेसने टाळाटाळ केली होती.
विश्वनाथ प्रताप सिंग यांच्या पंतप्रधानकीच्या कारकिर्दीत शेवटी हे चित्र लागले. बाबांचे तैलचित्र संसदेतील सेंट्रल हालमध्ये लावण्यासाठी दहाबारा वर्षे संघर्ष करावा लागला होता. आपल्याला संघर्ष करुनच कोणतीही गोष्ट मिळवावी लागते असा आजवरचा अनुभव आहे.
ग्रेट ब्रिटनमध्ये तर १९७३ साली बाबासाहेबांचे तैलचित्र झळकले होते.
In 1990, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, the chief architect of our Constitution, was bestowed with Bharat Ratna. The same year Dr. Ambedkar’s life size portrait was also unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament. The period from 14th April 1990-14th April 1991 was observed as ‘Year of Social Justice’ in the memory of Babasaheb, the champion of the poor and the downtrodden.
